Are you a food eater?

If you eat food, then you should know that it is being messed with. Get the point there? It affects EVERYONE. It’s actually something that’s been going on for many years now but many trusting citizens are not aware of.

Here is the short and simple disgusting truth of it all. Our food is being messed with by a company that does not play by the rules, Monsanto. Several of the people that work for Monsanto have also worked for the FDA, in fact, some of them go back and forth. The FDAs own scientists said that more research needs to be done on GMOs before releasing them into the world for human consumption. In the end this was IGNORED by the FDA. Since the 1990s we have been eating GMO foods, unbeknownst to most of us.

I don’t know, is there anything any of YOU realize has increased drastically over the past couple decades? Children with food allergies, perhaps? Or asthma? Or hello, autism? Diabetes?? Let’s not forget irritable bowel syndrome; it seems like everyone has a problem with their gut. How about allergies in general? Ask your parents and grandparents if they remember so many sickies when they were younger. How about cancer? It is an epidemic. What about all these children getting cancer??

Even if you barely paid attention in biology, you know that DNA is, at the very least, “really important” right? Well to make GMOs they put pieces of other organisms DNA into OUR FOOD’s DNA. So they change the DNA and natural make-up of our food and feed it to us. Without even CLOSE to sufficient testing and without a care in the world about how we feel about it.

Does that outrage you?

Monsanto has made a genetically modified corn that resists pesticides. They used a bacteria found in nature that produces a toxin that kills pests. They say it is species specific…in other words not toxic to humans. A recent study found traces of Bt toxins in 93 percent of pregnant women and in 80 percent of umbilical cords tested. Independent study after independent study and farmer after farmer is seeing nothing but problems tied to GMO foods.

Having problems conceiving? Google “infertility from GMOs”. It’s appalling. Are there no food allergies in your family history but your kids have developed them? Google “food allergies from GMOs”. Independent research has linked GMOs to cancer, infertility, accelerated aging, diabetes, Crohn’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, liver, kidney, spleen and gastrointestinal tract issues….the list goes on and on and on and on.

How could this be you may wonder. Surely someone would have stopped this. Not when the wrong people are in charge and care more about the almighty dollar than ANYthing else. Spend some time on the Institute for Responsible Technology‘s website and educate yourself. Or watch this documentary, it is FREE to watch through Saturday (9/22/12). I urge you to make it a high priority.

We CAN change this insanity. They have been stopped before genetically modifying tomatoes and wheat. They need to be stopped from creating any further damage to the human race. That might sound dramatic. that’s because this is THAT serious! It IS dramatic! On November 6th 2012, California citizens will be voting on whether or not they want the labels on the foods we eat to HAVE to indicate if they contain GMO ingredients. In the mean time, every time you buy “USDA organic” or “Non-GMO project” labeled foods, you are voting against GMOs…no matter where you live.

Protect yourselves and protect your children (even if they have not been born yet!), this is up to you; no one else! The FDA canNOT be trusted with this. They sent Monsanto letters saying that it is up to them (Monsanto) to ensure the safety of their products, that’s just not an entity you can trust.

Look how many other countries have taken a stand and require GMOs to be indicated on their food labels:

Door to Door Organics

You cant even see everything. Those are shiitake mushrooms peeking out of that bag in the middle and some figs hidden in that container on the right. Plus some bread up top, a big ol’ loaf!

This was our first order with Door to Door Organics. I threw it all on the table as nicely as possible to take a picture before the sleeping babe woke up. He woke up right after I put the grass-fed beef away and everything sat there looking pretty and yummy until after my oldest woke up. When he saw the table he said “Wooooow!” So then I gave him bok choy and told him to say cheese!

He complied because he is QUITE a ham. So while I didn’t order cheese OR ham, there they are anyway. Bah dum bum! *crickets*

Anyway, my husband does the grocery shopping. I know right? He loves it. He says he is Italian from his stomach up (That’s why that grass-fed beef is there as well as the bread. Today is his birthday and I told him if he didn’t want any weird vegan thing that I was going to try out he better tell me what he wants for his birthday dinner. Spaghetti and meatballs. Italiano!) and Polish from his wallet down, so he likes to make sure he’s getting the most bang for his buck. It looks like he gave it his approval, which is cool because I like it mewcho. I like when things are delivered for me. “Ooooo! UPS guy is here! Mini-Christmas!” And I love food, so this is a two-fer.

This is a “medium box” and a couple extras from the store. The boxes come pre-picked but you can swap out up to 5 things. We’re going to stick with them for a few weeks and see how it works for us.  I noticed we can invite “x” amount of people per month to try it and if they do, they get 50% off their first order. Love that!

I like that this pushes me to meal plan. I like to meal plan but sometimes it doesn’t get done and then I’m sad in the kitchen. This will make me plan by Monday evening every week and then I will be happy in the kitchen, which will be good because I spend a lot of time in there.

I made a Kale & Crispy Bacon Salad with one of those bunches of kale you see. My mom found the recipe in some magazine and made it when she was over recently. I just took a picture of the finished product with my iPad so it’s not the best.

I will type up the recipe in a new post and take better pictures tomorrow since there’s still some left. Those kale bunches are HUGE!  Making Chow Mein tomorrow night with those mushrooms and that bok choy. Yummo!

Yay for organic food and all its healthfulness! And yay for it delivered right to my door! Yays all around, then!
